Not on the album

Now it's time for some original material. This song, and the following few are not on the album. For various reasons. Check out sound bytes for songs that did make the album "Sight Or Sound" at:

Sight Or Sound - Jeff Edwards

It's also available on Amazon and Ruckus so far. There are fifteen tracks on the album, and only 10 of those are in full on my Youtube channel.

This particular song is called "Tell me why". It's another composition from a few years ago. It is centred around the demise of a relationship, that ended mysteriously. I'm confident that there will be a few that will recognise this dilemma. I am fond of this tune, but the chorus was a little too weak for my ears. I considered there were better songs to choose from.

You can check it out here:

Now for the continuation of events in my Dad's life.

My Dad. Part 5.

As I mentioned before, he spent a lot of time around a place called "Cowgate road" in Greenford, West London. This is where his mother lived years ago. He loved music from a very young age. Therefore, it was inevitable that he got himself onto the scene. He played The harmonica and guitar. There was only one serious endeavour in music with him, and it was a band called "The frasier chorus". It was a 4 piece harmonica band, and my father played the chromatic. They had very little in the way of success. They never secured a record contract, but they did enjoy touring with bigger, well known bands.

As he was a part of the mevement, he spent time with a number of individuals that you may recognise today. He has recounted a few tales to me. I found one or two very surprising. Even by the standards of today. In the sixties, I wouldn't imagine it was that unusual. Now I'm not sure if this happened in Cowgate road, but I've been told by my father about Lulu and Brian Poole of Tremeloes fame. I don't think my Dad was very fond of Lulu. Going by the colourful names he had for her. He told me that she would do anything for fame. Well, from what I know, a lot of people did things outside of their comfort zone in order to move themselves forward a step or two. He pointed out to me that the both of them were sexually active behind my grandmother's couch. Perhaps the floor was exciting, because I would imagine it would have been a lot more comfortable on the settee :)

To be continued.......

Is it a Eurovision

I'm going off track a little here to talk about a certain European song contest. Music being my priority.

I watched the Eurovision song contest last night. The only reason I watched it was to be entertained by the commentary of Terry Wogan.

Those of you outside Europe may not know this competition, but within Europe, it's always been a big deal.

The overall result was of little surprise to me. With neighbour countries having a habit of casting votes for each other. None more that what I like to term as Eastern Bloc Europe. So Russia were the victors this time around. How surprising!

I had to laugh when one judge said "The best song in Europe", and one of the judges unknowingly got very close to the truth when they said it was a "Great concert", because a concert is pretty much all it was. It certainly isn't a fair competition any more. Terry Wogan said that by the way. He is even considering abandoning the competition, I mean concert.

Am I sore that the British entry came joint last with votes from ony 2 countries? No, I'm shocked though, because it was in my top 5, and I know a bit about cutting edge music.

It's even more amazing if you look in all the European charts. There's always British and American music there. And why is that? Well, because it's cutting edge.

I thought it was a toss up between Turkey and Norway for the title. Turkey's song was a modern sound, that was not too far removed from a band called Muse, and for pure songwriting craft, you have to give it to Norway. It's some consolation that they got into the top 10. The British song was a pretty good song, and also deserved to be in the top 10. Commiserations to Poland and Germany too (I liked the Polish entry) who were joint bottom with us. The rest of Europe must see them as having close political links with us. Political, you hear me cry?

That's what I said. I've come up with a new name for the competition. The Eurovision Political Popularity Contest. Well, it's certainly not about the qualities of the songs. I think that was made quite clear last night.

So what are my thoughts on Europe?

I love it, and would like to visit all the European countries in my lifetime, and meet the locals. I'm just a regular guy who enjoys meeting people and doesn't colour them for the actions of their fellow citizens.

You can choose to agree or disagree with what I say. I'm not really qualified to comment on such an event. After all, I'm just a Songwriter :)

Things that surprise you.

Here's a really recent video. It was uploaded a little while ago!!

It's an original song that I put together over the last week or so.

So far, with my original material, the videos are comprised of image slideshows. This one is different. This is my first Original song video that contains moving images. I wanted to theme the video on the meaning of the song, and I think I've done that pretty well.

The name of the song is "Don't wish it away". It's about people who wish their days, or life away. Maybe it's grief, or impatience. Or maybe something else. The video is centred on things disappearing, and events going back to front. There is symbolism in all of this.

Check out my new song:

These are the latest numbers on my youtube channel.

I've got 550 subscribers now.

The viewings of my channel are now 11,329, and all of my videos have racked up 162,129 views.

I'm mulling over a cover version for my next video. There are three song I want to do. The songs are "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies, "Running on faith" by Eric Clapton or "My father's eyes", also by Eric Clapton.

Another written by me. So Blue

Now for one of my own songs. This is a song called "So blue". I wrote this one a couple of years ago. I wanted to do a song where I would start with one style. Then change the style part way through the song. It all matched up quite nicely with the lyrics. The first part showing a happy face, and the second part telling the truth behind the facade.

Here is "So Blue".

There's been a bit of a boost to my Youtube stats. When I turned my computer on this morning, I discovered lots of emails, and a bigger than normal jump in subscribers. This was due to another channel on Youtube. It's a channel that picks 5 musicians a week, then features them on a video. This week I was featured in the video :)

So this is how it all stands at the moment.

My subs are now impressively up to 488

Channel views = 10,890

Total video views = 138,755

Next up is another original song from further back :)

Escape

This is the 2nd Original of mine, in a row, out of three. This one is called "Escape". This has been one of the favourites amongst some of my friends. Like the others before, this song was written a few years ago.

It's about those that are tired of playing hard to get.

Here is the song:

I've passed another Youtube milestone (Well in my mind anyway).

I've made it past 400 subscribers to 402. I wonder how long it will take to get to 500.

I now have 10,301 channel viewings.

115,368 total views for all videos. They are still moving along at a consistent pace.

The net post will cover the third of three original songs in a row.

My song - Convey

Now for some Originals. This is the first of three. It goes by the name of "Convey". I wanted to write a fresh song that would be first shown on Youtube, and this was the result.

I have been more than happy with the great comments on my Original songs. There's been a lot of positivity. The meaning behind this composition is about how someone says what they say. Not just the words, but the intention behind them.

I hope you enjoy my song. Convey:

Back to the Youtube numbers.

On my last post there wasn't an increase at all in the subscribers. This time I managed 1, so that takes me to 393.

Channel views up to 10,111.

Total video views are 111,527.

Next, is the second of my 3 Original songs in a row.

Video 34. Anybody there

Here's another one of my Original songs.

This is one that was written a few years ago again. It was part of a large batch of songs I wrote in a 2 month period. A number of friends and family took a liking to this one.

It's called "Anybody there"

It's about someone who is feeling desperately lonely, and tries to contact people, but without luck. This results in them feeling even more lonely.

Here it is:

A Youtube stats update.

I've gained a couple more subscribers. The total is now 382.

The channle views are now up to 9,730. That's a pretty good increase since the last post.

The total views for all my videos are now 107,229. Still moving strongly.

Next. A cover I recorded a few years ago, which I decided to put up.

I listen every day

Now on the the 30th video.

This is one of my own compositions from over a year ago. It's called "Why don't you ask".

This one is more up tempo in relation to the other songs of mine. I was curious to know what it would sound like if I used a vibraphone as the hook in an indie song, and the results are in this song.

It's all about 2 people. One of them really wants to know the other person inside, and asks to find out. However, the other person doesn't do the same. They just make assumptions. They are of course wrong.

Tell me what you think:

Now some statistics.

I've had an increase in my subscribers again.

The total now stands at 354.

The views for all my videos has just passed 99,000. At the current rate. They should make the 100,000 during friday.

The amount of people viewing my channel is 9402. The next big target for that is 10,000. Though this is going to take a little longer. It could take 2 to 3 weeks for this to happen.

Back to cover versions for the next video. It's a Paul Weller number :)

My third Original tune

Video number 25 was the 3rd original song of mine to be put on Youtube. It's a slow number that has no percussion. I tried to keep the lyrics ambiguous so that they could possibly mean more, to more different people.

The track is "Blow away", and it's generally about someone looking back on relationships of the past, and how they believe that they were the reason for the relationships ending.

See what you think:

My rendition of a Connells classic is next :)

Video 22. Original song - Twist of fate.

I'm skipping the 21st video because it's another one of my how to sing vids that I pointed out in a previous post.

So the next video in the sequence.

This was a song that I wrote a few years ago. This one has been quite popular with quite a few people. It's not to be confused with other songs that share the same title. It's a song called Twist of fate, and was written, performed and produced by me.

Here it is:

I've done a bit of experimenting with my music. The arrangement in this song is a bit odd, so that it would match the meaning. The verses are in the first half of the song, and the chorus at the end. It's quite a moving song. I hope you enjoy it.

You may notice that I use slideshows in my original song videos. There's no special reason, though I do try to match pictures to moods.

What do you think I might be doing next? Yep. It's another Neil Diamond song :)
